How Bay Area Home Sellers Can Increase Home Value

We’re all familiar with the MPG fuel efficiency stickers slapped on cars.

It won’t be long before there will be “home energy efficiency stickers” slapped on homes: Square footage. Natural gas consumption. BTU rating. Water usage.

Think about it!

Buyers will be able to point their mobile devices at QR barcodes on front doors and “for sale” signs, or look online to learn the home’s energy performance rating! This rating may even affect buyers decision on which home to purchase! Who wouldn’t want a home with utility bills cut by half forever, even on the hottest and coldest days of the year?

Building science and home energy upgrades make it possible right this minute to measure and improve a home’s energy efficiency rating – reducing energy bills by up to 45% and more, improving air quality and comfort, balancing indoor temperatures room to room.! HOW? By assessing and upgrading the home’s weather envelope through air sealing attic and crawl spaces, insulating for energy performance, and possibly switching to energy efficient HVAC.

I think we all agree that home energy costs aren’t going anywhere but up. So homes that are twice as efficient will entice savvy buyers. It’s something for buyers, sellers, and homeowners to consider.
