The interior designer/homeowner brought her sophisticated aesthetic to bear when we remodeled and restored her classic 1,533 sq. ft. 1950s Eichler, in the *Rancho San Miguel subdivision of Walnut Creek. Eichler homes, once ignored and derided, have experienced a renaissance, graced with open interior spaces that emphasize our interconnection with the natural world.
Renovations were global, including a cozy room for baby and work-from-home office space. Beckner Contracting & Management remodeled the dark galley kitchen, including expanding sightlines to enhance sky views with additional clerestory windows. We modernized the primary bath with a cantilevered vanity, replacing interior and exterior doors, hardware, and baseboards; improving storage; increasing and upgrading utilities; and supervising installation of a modern technology-radiant floor heating system throughout.
Before launching the project, we researched 20th-century postwar American real estate developer Joseph Eichler’s Mid-Century modernist tract housing vision and open plans.
*Rancho San Miguel is a subdivision of 535 homes—boasting 375 Eichlers. The neighborhood is celebrating its 50th anniversary and seeking a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.
