We tuned up a California blended family’s cookie-cutter 1950s rancher. An eclectic retreat, modernized and expanded with additional interior spaces. The flowery Laura Ashley wallpaper was the first to go. The homeowners packed their belongings into a PODS container and moved into the garage conversion during the remodel. We fashioned a makeshift kitchen by the utility sink, and they settled in.
Beckner Contracting & Management’s scope of work: enlarge the home’s footprint with two additions and reconfigure the floorplan. Including remodeling the kitchen, den, guest bedroom, and primary bedroom/bath. To create more square footage in the primary bedroom, we used one of the additions for an ensuite bath.
Goals: effortless entertaining, more elbow room, a chef’s kitchen with a roomy pantry, and a designated office to work remotely from home.
Sustainability efforts: Green Guard-certified paint, reused hardwood flooring, solar, and a tankless water heater. Air sealing and insulation to achieve a complete and continuous building envelope.
